First check in the Green For Green program delivered

DOVER, DE – The Green for Green Steering Committee has presented a rebate check to new homeowners Lam and Maxine Lim because of the energy efficiency built into their new home, built by J.S. Hovnanian & Sons in the Felton, Delaware area.

The $2,000 check was paid through a cooperative program between the Home Builders Association of Delaware which administers the Green for Green Program and Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU) which funds the program.  The SEU is a unique nonprofit organization created by the State of Delaware to foster a sustainable energy future for the state.

The Green of Green Program offers  rebates between $1,000 to $4,500 to home buyers and non-profits home builders that build high energy efficient homes certified by the by the National Green Building Standard (NGBS), or Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED), or that have a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) of 59 or less. A dozen homebuilders are participating in this program, more are welcome to participate.  Information is available on the program website www.degreen4green.com

"In 2010 and 2011, when this was offered as a pilot program through the SEU, nearly 200 new home buyers received rebates totaling about $750,000. When compared to homes built to standard codes, these homes will see an estimated $2,371,000 in energy savings over their lifetime," said Mr. DePrima.  So far this year, about $130,000 of rebates have been paid or committed to be paid.
